The FOSS Club of University College of Engineering, Kariavattom (UCEK), conducted an orientation session for freshers on 26th September 2024. The session introduced students to FOSS, its Four Freedoms, and the club’s activities. The event featured interactive activities such as the “Truth and Lie about FOSS” game and an AI-based “Prompt Challenge.” Students actively participated, shared their thoughts, and cleared their doubts about FOSS and the club. The session concluded at 12:00 PM, marking a successful beginning to the club’s engagement with the new batch.

Introduction to Open Source

On October 18, 2024, the FOSS Club of UCEK organized “Introduction to Open Source” at the college Seminar Hall, led by Ms. Meharuniza, Research Associate at ICFOSS. The session introduced students to the philosophy of Open Source, the Four Freedoms, collaboration, career opportunities, and ways to contribute to OSS projects. The interactive session included discussions and student queries on starting an Open Source journey, contributing to projects, and career advancement. The event concluded with a feedback session and a Vote of Thanks by Ms. Indu Shalini, Head of the ECE Department. The session successfully inspired students to explore Open Source and strengthened the club’s commitment to learning, collaboration, and innovation.

RUN IT UP

FOSS UCEK successfully organized RUN IT UP – Treasure Hunt on April 11, 2024 bringing together students for an exciting experience focused on teamwork, creative thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration. Open to all students, the event saw nine enthusiastic teams competing through a series of challenging riddles and puzzles spread across the campus. The hunt began at the Central Circle with five strategically placed clues, leading participants through an engaging campus-wide challenge before reaching the final destination at the Geology Department where the treasure was hidden. After an exciting race, Ajesh and his team emerged victorious by solving all the clues first and were awarded a ₹1,000 prize. With smooth coordination, creative clue design, and enthusiastic participation, RUN IT UP received highly positive feedback and successfully created a fun, memorable, and engaging experience for the students.
